Guido Faas has always been interested in science and technology. From a young age, he and his brother (Eugene Faas) sought to understand how stuff works and how to make stuff work. He has kept this interest throughout his life and is self-taught, acquiring a technical understanding of a variety of fields such as electronics, mechanical engineering, and software development.
With a PhD in biology (specializing in neurophysiology), he has worked as a successful neuroscientist for more than 25 years at the University of Amsterdam, Utrecht University, Baylor College of Medicine, and University of California, Los Angeles. His approach to science has always been in the niche between neuroscience and engineering. Utilizing his self-taught skills in microscopy, electronics, and mathematical modeling, Guido has tackled neuroscience questions by pioneering novel neuro-behavioral recording techniques. In 2017 he started developing a microchip-based system to continuously measure brain activity and behavior in mice. Together with Dmitri he further developed this into a patented technique used in award-winning sleep and migraine research.
Through Neureflect, Guido envisions a further development of these bio-tracking techniques to applications in a wide variety of fields such as (but not limited to) medicine and veterinary care.
